Richard Dib
Richard Dib is an early internet entrepreneur, former AT&T Bell Labs engineer, pioneering Spanish-language domain investor, and the creator of Siguimi.com.
Education
Dib attended and graduated cum laude in Computer Engineering from the University of Puerto Rico, Mayagüez campus (RUM / Recinto Universitario de Mayagüez). RUM is widely regarded as the premier engineering school in Puerto Rico. Its College of Engineering holds long-standing ABET accreditation across multiple programs (including Computer Engineering), consistently ranks as the top engineering institution on the island, and produces graduates with strong outcomes relative to other Puerto Rican universities.
Technical roots at AT&T Bell Labs
In the early 1990s, Dib worked as an engineer at AT&T Bell Labs, the legendary research organization behind foundational technologies such as the transistor, laser, Unix, and major advances in telecommunications switching and networking. His experience there emphasized rigorous testing and high engineering standards.
Early ISP ventures and Puerto Rico internet milestone
After Bell Labs, he founded Netwave, initially a Chicago-based Internet Service Provider during the commercial internet's formative years. Netwave played a pivotal role in Puerto Rico: the company helped TLD (Telefonica Larga Distancia) become the first telecommunications company on the island to provide Internet access. All of TLD's Internet traffic was routed to Netwave's offices in the Sears Tower (Chicago) for connectivity. Dib also launched Ethernetix, an in-building internet service provider whose first major deployment was the Sears Tower (now Willis Tower) — one of the earliest efforts to deliver dedicated high-speed connectivity directly into large commercial office buildings.
Domain investing pioneer
Dib is recognized as one of the early Spanish-language domainers. The Spanish Wikipedia page on “Domainer” explicitly lists him among the first known investors in Spanish-language domains (alongside Christian Chena, José Navarro, Miguel García, Matías de Tezanos, and others). He is described as a Puerto Rico-based pioneer in generic Spanish domains and a seller of premium names. Notable domains associated with his activity include juegos.com, Carros.com, Bodas.com, Hogar.com, and GrandCasino.com. A 2007 interview further references his involvement with several of these premium names.
Creator of Siguimi.com & other ventures
Dib is the founder and creator of Siguimi.com (launched around July 2026), a pure chronological social media platform with no algorithmic ranking. Key features include:
- Strict reverse-chronological feeds (newest posts first)
- Free posts that expire after 7 days (extendable via engagement) to keep the network fresh
- Pro subscriptions for permanent posts
- Support for photos, video, PDFs, MP3s, nested media comments, and location-based classifieds
- Built-in news aggregator drawing from 200+ RSS sources
- Strong emphasis on free speech (with limited restrictions such as no porn or doxxing)
He continues developing and promoting Siguimi as its founder. He has also referenced other projects, including the free news app Nusfeed.app.
Richard Dib's career spans the full arc of the commercial internet: a strong academic foundation with a cum laude Computer Engineering degree from Puerto Rico's top engineering school (UPR Mayagüez), deep technical work at Bell Labs in the early 1990s, hands-on ISP entrepreneurship that helped introduce Internet access to Puerto Rico through TLD (with all traffic routed through Netwave's Sears Tower facilities in Chicago), pioneering domain investing in the Spanish-language market (including juegos.com and other generics, as documented on Wikipedia), and ongoing product creation with modern platforms such as Siguimi.com. He remains an active builder focused on chronological, non-algorithmic social tools and digital assets — including client work through DibWeb.
